The first “Beat Chris Liss” NFFC league drafts Wednesday July 16 at 4 PM ET. You can sign up for it here. I will livestream it, so your horrible picks will be viewed by dozens at a minimum. Think one of them actually got like 6K views last year which for me was a lot. (Full disclosure, the league is free for me, but $350 for you.)
I have done very little fantasy football research, but a nutless monkey can sort the recent NFFC ADP by position and pick and choose among players at roughly the market rate. If I haven’t researched a player yet, I just pass, there’s always another one at roughly his price.
. . .
My baseball leagues are treading water. As of right now, here’s how they stand:
None of them is horrendous, but none is great, either. My rate is one cash per year out of four teams, and I’d take that at this point. The Chris Sale injury (three teams) really hurt.
. . .
I watched the first set of Sinner-Alcaraz yesterday during a layover at the Barcelona airport. You’d think there would be TVs everywhere showing it since Carlos Alcaraz is Spanish, but no, those nutless monkeys only had it on in one bar-restaurant, and not that many people cared. US airports are shitholes by comparison, but they always have sports bars with games on.
I tracked Wimbledon really closely this year since we were in London — we were actually supposed to go, but we couldn’t get tickets despite Heather’s tennis connections and didn’t want to spend $1K or more per ticket after going there for free in 2015 because Heather’s mom, who has since passed away, had permanent free tickets for making the quarterfinals there in the 1960s. The final eight privilege doesn’t get passed down apparently.
I don’t know about up-and-coming tennis prospects, but there’s no one currently on the tour that should stop these guys meeting in three or four grand slam finals per year for the next half decade. They are two of the five greatest ever, along with the big three. The level of tennis is mind-blowing.
I also can’t believe Swiatek won 6-0, 6-2 in the semis and 6-0, 6-0 in the finals. Women’s tennis is so random ever since Serena Williams retired — in the third round you’d have two unseeded players who had won grand slams facing each other. Swiatek herself was only the eighth seed. And 6-0, 6-0 just doesn’t happen in a final. It was worse than the Bears-Patriots Super Bowl.
. . .
I was on vacation the last two weeks, didn’t bring my laptop, and I enjoyed the break so much I won’t take it when I travel again from July 24 to August 5 and again for four days in mid-August. I’ll make a bunch of posts this week, but my output this summer will be erratic. If you’re a subscriber, you should know that up front.
I also am more in DGAF mode, so I’ll just post what I’m interested in, even if it’s tennis or some odd thoughts about the NFL. Just be forewarned, and consider unsubscribing if you feel like you want some kind of comprehensive NFL-prep content. I love that people are still reading these posts, but I don’t want anyone to be misled.
To repeat, though, Beat Chris Liss 1, is scheduled for Wednesday at 4 PM ET. Real man signs up.
I'm going to attempt to Draft in BCL1 from Thailand thru a proxy in the USA... during the LIVESTREAM you may have to pause the draft... due to technical difficulties, but hopefully it all goes smooth... or do you recommend a VPN I should try to use?
