Last week’s picks went 0-5 which is catastrophic in a large-field tournament like this. It’s hard enough to beat the thousands of sharps, but doing so from out of a deep hole is almost impossible. That said I can still win the quarterly prizes, and I can also (if I’m lucky) win the booby prize of having the worst record, but that is for far less money and equally hard to do, except that I’m off to a fast start.
In any event, there’s nothing I can do about that except move on to this week. Here are the Circa Lines:
I like the Jets getting 6.5 at home against the Bills who were very lucky to have a win and make the short trip on a slightly shortened week. Given the way the Jets offense played, I’d put this line around four.
I also like the 49ers — I know Brock Purdy and George Brittle are out, but Mac Jones is one of the league’s better backups, and I like the way it sets up against maybe the worst team in the league.
I also like the Bengals. Those 3.5 point lines make me lean favorite as they’re begging you to take the dog. Also, they will get Ja’Marr Chase going this week.
Give me the Lions too. Maybe the Packers defense is just that good. This is a small line over the Bears in Detroit.
Finally, I’ll take the Steelers at home against Sam Darnold. Justin Fields played well against them, but I expect them to rattled Darnold.
If you get to 0-10 will you go for the booby prize? Just curious at what point the focus would change.
Were there more 0-5 the first week? or 5-0?
