The hardest part now when they lose and the season is over, is consoling my 10 year old son now that he is hugely into it because I've indoctrinating him into the losing.
We were at the game, and he started crying pretty badly early 4th quarter, would get a glimmer of hope, then something bad would happen again which would bring the floodgates all over again. I'm torn between consoling him and letting him cry on my shoulder, and telling him it's time to stop now and to toughen up, its just a game (which i hardly believe myself) so alas i did both which is most certainly incorrect. He's mostly ok now. I think Stafford being eliminated softened the blow. That would have been the final nut-kicker.
After we got home from the game, I poured myself a rye on the rocks and had a drink with my wife. As we sat, I asked her, "they're never going to get to the super bowl, are they?" She looked at me sadly, and pretty convincingly shook her head no, as if she's known the answer all along.
