Monday Night Observations
Done
I was in two semi-finals this week, had already been knocked out by DJ Trainor in the RotoWire Dynasty league, but was up 60 in Stacker Sports and facing Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle and Jajuan Jennings. You can imagine the experience of watching literally ALL of them go bananas on every drive — I was toast by the end of the first half, lost by 30. Made the Lamar Jackson no-show easier to swallow at least. I also had the Niners in Circa, putting me at 2-3 rather than 1-4, but that was for the wrong reason — thought the Niners would destroy Philip Rivers.
George Kittle’s ankle injury is a concern, but otherwise, the 49ers might be a sleeper to do some damage in the playoffs. Their offense is coming together at the right time.
Purdy was almost perfect — got the ball out quickly, had tons of time, made good throws, spread it around.
McCaffrey is really smooth, more Bijan Robinson than Jahmyr Gibbs, just glides for extra yards every time he touches the ball. Amazing he stayed this healthy on this workload for this long. I held Brian Robinson all year in a couple leagues, sure he’d pay off, but McCaffrey never wavered.
Kittle had a monster game, but his injury is the only thing clouding this outcome — well, that and 90 YO Philip Rivers having his way with the defense for much of the game.
The Colts spread the ball around so much, it’s hard to count on any one receiver, but Josh Downs and Alec Pierce had good games. Pierce is one of the underrated big-play/red-zone receivers in the league, and Downs seems like Rivers’ favorite target in the slot.
Jonathan Taylor’s season started with a bang and went out with a whimper, much like his team’s.
Rivers looked much sharper this week than last, though the Seattle defense in Seattle was a tall order for his first game in five years. His timing was really good, and his throws were accurate.
My fantasy football season is officially done, pretty piss poor showing for me. I’d give it a 2.5 out of 10, as I had some contending teams, just couldn’t get it done.
