Sorry, I must have enabled this months ago, and now that I see what it is, I’ve disabled it.
It’s not the discount that’s the problem, or the marketing, but the lame way it’s done. No one is offering a discount “as a token of our appreciation.” That’s just bullshit. They’re offering it because they want people who are reading for free to pay.
I want people to pay too, but getting you to pay me would not be showing you appreciation.
I don’t promise my readers much — neither regular content, nor actionable information nor winning you money — but I do promise not to bullshit you. And that email was definitely bullshit.
