I’ve always felt Super Bowl is like a novel. It takes forever to complete. There are commercial delays, longer halftime and other “entertainment” breaks built for the non-football fan. Elite defenses don’t typically need assistance in the first place.
That might play into it too. Offenses need rhythm, defenses disrupt it. If the game flow is being disrupted 100 times anyway, might favor elite defenses even more. Though there were a string of Super Bowls that went over, so it doesn't appear to favor defense generally.
